History of SHRM
Our History Is Our Future

For the past 60+ years, since 1965, the Central Kansas SHRM Chapter 0075 has been affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), previously known from 1948–1989 as the American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA). Central Kansas SHRM Chapter is one of eleven state-affiliated chapters belonging to the Kansas State Council of SHRM (KSSHRM).
Central Kansas SHRM Chapter has been a trusted partner to local HR professionals and organizations, providing clarity, guidance, and foresight to create workplaces that empower people, strengthen communities, and shape the future of work, right here in the heart of South Central Kansas! We serve business professionals across Reno and McPherson Counties, as well as throughout many of the smaller adjacent communities in South Central Kansas, including Rice, Harvey, and parts of eastern Stafford, southeastern Barton, southern Ellsworth, southwestern Marion, northwestern Sedgwick, northern Kingman, and northeastern Pratt counties. Whether you are new to the HR field or have many years of experience, we are a local starting point for networking, information, professional development, and continued support of excellence in Human Resources.
Our mission is to empower leaders in the community to foster positive change in the workplace through education, collaboration, and advocacy.
As members of a SHRM-affiliated local chapter, members develop a network that will help them in many ways: exposure to other HR professionals and companies, and insights into how other organizations handle various human resource situations, procedures, policies, etc. Access to a network of professionals and specialists providing HR information that might otherwise be difficult and/or expensive to obtain. Opportunity to develop relationships and contacts with other companies to share information on HR concerns. Access to current best practices to make your organization more efficient, increase employee commitment, and help line managers carry out business strategies. Work is changing faster—and with higher stakes—than most organizations are prepared for. HR leaders are expected to protect the business, support the workforce, and drive performance simultaneously. SHRM membership is for HR and business leaders who are accountable for outcomes—leaders who need their workforce decisions to hold up in the boardroom, with regulators, and with employees.
